Altrusa of Highland County replaces Little Free Library
Altrusa of Highland County recently replaced the Little Free Library (LFL) in uptown Hillsboro.
This LFL was one of the original boxes in Highland County. The original box was dedicated to the memory of Altrusa Sister, Michelle Ross, who passed away in 2013. The new box continues to honor her legacy with an updated plaque.
The design and construction of the new Little Free Library was a collaborative effort. Jeff Boester, whose wife Debbie is an Altrusa member, partnered with Craig Markin, and his grandson, Mason Hoggatt. Craig, who lives at Lake Waynoka and has a background in design, worked closely with Jeff to create and assemble the box as a replica to the Highland County Courthouse.
Mason received a 3D printer for Christmas, and he worked with his dad, Kevin, to craft the windows, door and steeple. Mason and his family reside in Hilliard, Ohio. Younger brother, Tyler, helped stock the library once it was installed and proudly became its first patron by selecting a favorite book.
The motto of the LFL program is “take a book, leave a book.”
Altrusa of Highland County sponsors eleven Little Free Library boxes for our communities to enjoy. When you’re finished reading a book you can leave it, and when you see a good book take it! There are Little Free Libraries all over the world. For more information or to locate a nearby library, visit littlefreelibrary.org
