23rd annual Lynchburg Village Christmas a success
The 23rd annual Lynchburg Village Christmas was a success, according to event chairpersons Bill and Angie McTague.
The annual Village Christmas originally began in 1992 when Jan Dean and her daughter-in-law opened their homes to sell their crafts and asked other residents to join them. Since then, it has grown some and declined some, but it has held steady for the past five years. The McTagues continue to strive to make it the absolute must-attend event of the Christmas season.
In the past, Southern Hills Community Bank of Lynchburg has donated a 32-inch flatscreen TV to be given away in a free raffle. This year, the bank informed the McTagues that they wanted to do more and get a 50-inch flatscreen TV, but they were sold out, so they donated a 40-inch TV.
“In a time when sponsors are scaling back, Southern Hills Community Bank is determined to do more,” Bill McTague said.
The winner of the 40-inch flatscreen TV was Sonja Creed of Lynchburg.

Unfortunately, the McTagues had to put a hold on the free carriage rides because of unpredictable weather and carriage providers. Instead of carriage rides this year, Tom Pitzer Trucking of Hillsboro sponsored a $100 gift card from Lowe’s, which was won by Joel Gorby of Chillicothe. This was Gorby’s second year in attendance, and he said he plans to attend each year.
Tom Pitzer Trucking also sponsored a $100 gift card from Kroger, which was won by Jayne Antoinette-Wright of Blanchester. This was her husband Tim’s first year at the Village Christmas, and he said the prize could not have come at a better time.
Hamilton Insurance of Lynchburg sponsored a $50 gift card from Frisch’s, which was won by Sandy Warner of Lynchburg, and a $50 gift card from Bob Evans, which was won by Karen Martin of Sardinia. Davis-Turner Funeral Home of Lynchburg sponsored a $50 gift card from Frisch’s, which was won by Matthew Long of Mount Orab, and a $50 gift card from Bob Evans, which was won by Randall Scott of Lynchburg.
The McTagues would like to thank all of the vendors who participated. Without them, there would be no Village Christmas. They would also like to thank all of the visitors who came to the quaint village of Lynchburg during the event.
Most of all, the McTagues thanked all the generous sponsors who helped make the Lynchburg Village Christmas a success.
“To quote, it takes a village to succeed, and although we aren’t quite a village yet, it does not keep us from striving for that goal,” McTague said.
The McTagues look forward to seeing everyone next year at the 24th annual Lynchburg Village Christmas and hope everyone has a blessed new year.
