Sunday Funnies

Lead Summary

Today seems as good a day as any to bring back those wonderful Sunday Funnies.

No, and with regrets, we won't have Hi and Lois, Hagar the Horrible, the Lockhorns or Blondie and Dagwood. Not even Beetle Bailey, B.C., or the Wizard of Id, sadly.

Besides, who needs Popeye and Pogo when you've got those Curmudgeonly Comics of Congress?

Let's look at today's real funnies, shall we?

• From The Daily Caller (http://dailycaller.com), we read that 18 Democrat U.S. senators and senators-elect have sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid seeking a delay in the implementation of the medical device tax in Obamacare.

What?!! Democrats Opposed to Obamacare? DOO say?

This little tax was a key part of Obamacare, which was passed in the Democrat Senate in 2009 and takes effect this year.

As National Review offered in its Dec. 31, 2012 edition: "What does it take for (Democrats) Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren and Al Franken to admit that taxes can kill jobs? Levy an onerous tax on companies that provide a great many high-paying jobs in their states: medical-device manufacturers."

The Daily Caller reports: "The provision’s 2.3-percent excise tax on medical device manufacturers has sparked panic within the medical devices industry. Indiana-based Zimmer Holdings, which manufactures hip replacement implants, laid off 450 workers in anticipation of $60 million in taxes in 2013. Michigan-based Stryker Corp., which also produces hip implants, laid off 5 percent of its workers in a bid to compensate for the $100 million it will pay in taxes next (this) year."

NR concluded in rather comical, yet accurate, fashion: "It appears that once Democrats found out what's in the bill, they weren't so happy they passed it."

(Nancy Pelosi supposedly laughed so hard her plastic face almost moved.)

Har, har, har. That's funnier than the last time ol' Sarge mopped the mess hall with Beetle Bailey's forehead, isn't it?

Boy, those Liberals are a riot. Too bad, they didn't win a House majority last November. Maybe in 2014. There's hope.

• And how about that Charlie Crist character from the Sunshine State? He changes political loyalties more often than Blondie changes dresses.

One day he's a Republican governor and wannabe Republican senator. Later, he claims to be an Independent, but can't beat a more conservative Marco Rubio.

Today, he's a born-again Obama Democrat.

Let's hope he can Three-Peat in the political loser's bracket.

Har, har, har. Good stuff, CC.

Let's not leave out Republicans, either.

Good ol' Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said today that we could have a government shutdown if Obama won't take a serious look at spending cuts.

That Mitch. He's a card, ain't he?

Didn't the RepubbaBubbas just cave in to Obama a few days ago on the over-hyped and much-ado-about-nothing Fiscal Cliff vote? (Yes, they did.)

Mitch and the Boehner are as laughable as the boy who cried wolf.

No one's listening to you anymore. Whatever once was of your limited relevance is gone. You gave it away. You didn't learn from history; thus, you were deemed to repeat it.

Ronald Reagan once tried to compromise with Tip O'Neill. Who won? That'd be the Tipster. Reagan regretted it for years. Taxpayers have regretted it for decades.

Senator McConnell said on the TeeVee today: “We don’t have this problem because we tax too little. We have it because we spend way, way too much.”

Ya think? Maybe you should share that sentiment with your "conservative" friends in the People's House; that is, if you can find any conservatives in the House.

I swear, today's Republicans are funnier than Snuffy Smith on a moonshine buzz.

What Republicans in Congress continually fail to realize is that they cannot possibly break even in a compromise with the Democrats and the liberal media. It's always a two-against-one game.

The setup and the outcome are as predictable as Garfield vs. Odie.

Pogo said it best: "We have met the enemy and it is us."
