Ralph L. Helfinstine Sr.

Ralph L. Helfinstine Sr., 95, of Hillsboro, passed away early Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton.

He was born Sept. 5, 1928 in Dayton, the son of the late Leroy and Ethel (Barnhart) Helfinstine. 

Ralph was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and retired from the City of Dayton after 30 years of service. 

He is survived by two sons, Richard Dennis (Robert Peelle) Helfinstine of Wilmington and Ralph LeRoy Jr. (Ann Marie) Helfinstine of Centerville; four grandchildren, Jason (Aubrey) Helfinstine, Christopher Johnson, Kelly (Adam Willey) Johnson and Ashley (Brandon) Link; and seven great-grandchildren, Claire, Macy, Ryder, Austin, Madison, Matthew and Raelyn. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret J. (Peggy) Helfinstine, on June 18, 2023; a son, Randy Alan Helfinstine; a sister, Carma Shieman; and a brother, Melvin Helfinstine. 

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Leo Kuhn will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
