Sara Pelfrey of Hillsboro recently participated in the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship, held Sept. 21-24 in Burlington, N.C.

Battling hurricane-like weather Saturday in North Carolina, Pelfrey placed seventh in the Women's Amateur 3 division.

With her seventh-place finish, Pelfrey has qualified for the 2024 Professional Disc Golf Association Amateur Disc Golf World Championships, which will be held Aug. 6-10 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Pelfrey has only been playing the sport for about a year and already had success, participating in 28 tournaments this year with 12 wins. She also earned a third-place finish in the Southeastern Amateur Championship in Orlando, Fla.

Pelfrey works in Hillsboro as a manager at Classics Diner. She and her husband, Clinton, have plans to give Hillsboro another disc golf course by next year.

Up next, Pelfrey will participate in the Myrtle Beach Open in November. You can follow her past and future results at https://www.pdga.com/player/246537.
