Election proved Americans are wise to Biden’s overreaching bureaucrats

WASHINGTON, D.C. - "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."
President Ronald Reagan famously cited these as the nine most terrifying words to hear. Too often, politically motivated, yet unelected regulators go far beyond the scope of their agency to push an agenda and exact greater control over your life— hindering more than helping.
If you’ve followed this bulletin and my work in Congress, then you know I’m no fan of power-hungry bureaucrats. In the past four years under the Biden-Harris administration, liberal activist officials have regulated Americans and specifically small businesses nearly to death with costly rules that return no benefit and simply exist to make life more difficult for Main Street.
I’ve made a point to hold these overzealous regulators in check, and I’m not done yet. This week, my Republican colleagues and I on the House Financial Services Committee demanded answers from regulators who contributed to this year’s $1.8 trillion burden on families and small businesses.
The perseverance and tenacity of Missouri’s small businesses never ceases to amaze me. I’ve spoken with many whom say bureaucratic rules have been the single greatest challenge in building a thriving business.
Annette Alberts, founder of LabSpace Robotics in Jefferson City, said navigating the red tape on a regular basis makes things difficult, but her commitment to the community pushed her to keep learning as she goes.
Pierre Desir, owner of Hustle & Hearth Sports Performance in St. Charles, mentioned the mountains of paperwork and financial burden associated with regulations.
Despite the Biden-Harris administration’s insistence on smothering the American people with needless rules and regulations, Missourians have endured AND made their voices heard this November when they voted for a new direction.
The widespread Republican victories were an indictment on Democrats’ irresponsible rulemaking, government overreach, and waste.
As I near retirement, my staff and I have tackled the tall task of packing up my office and weeding through 16 years of work. Among the countless files, reports, and briefings, I’ve come across relics of our fight against radical regulators and their bureaucratic abuse. SIFI, Chokepoint, CECL, Enforcement of Guidance. So many misguided and mishandled initiatives from liberal regulators attempting to subvert the democratic process and the will of the American people.
If any good has come from the disastrous Biden administration, it is the clear-cut example of what not to do. Regulators must heed the directive of voters and roll back the overreaching rules. It’s time to unleash the power of American businesses and get our nation back on track.
