Ohio credit unions chief appointed to national board
Robert Rutkowski was elected and appointed to the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) Regulator Board, comprised of all state credit union regulatory agencies across the nation.
The Deputy Superintendent for Credit Unions at the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Financial Institutions (DFI) was appointed by NASCUS board members during the 2023 State System Summit Annual Meeting on Aug. 27.
“Rob has made tremendous contributions as our Deputy Superintendent for Credit Unions,” said Superintendent Kevin Allard. “His expertise is invaluable, and I know he’ll offer a unique perspective when filling his role on the NASCUS Regulator Board."
Rutkowski first became involved with credit unions as a director on the board of Lake County Educational Federal Credit Union in the early ’90s. By the late ’90s, he headed up a credit union practice group at a large Ohio law firm.
For most of his career, he has also been a speaker on credit union compliance topics, working with most of the state leagues and trade associations. Rutkowski became DFI’s Deputy Superintendent for Credit Unions in February of 2015.
“I am honored and excited to serve as a NASCUS Regulator Board Director and am looking forward to working alongside many other dedicated members within the state credit union system,” Rutkowski said.
Rutkowski provides strategic oversight of supervision and regulation of state-chartered credit unions including examinations, matters related to problem credit unions, mergers, liquidation and appointment and removal of conservator and matters pertaining to fields of membership.
He is responsible for all activities relating to credit union special actions and monitoring and assists in the direction and/or performance of the analysis of division policy and objectives regard credit unions. Finally, he is responsible for counseling CU industry officials on technical, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
A native of Waynesville, Rutkowski holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University.
