Willie Mae Tolson

Willie Mae Tolson, 88, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024 at Crestwood Ridge Skilled Nursing & Rehab. 

She was born Dec. 12, 1935 in Tennessee. 

Willie worked at Candle-lite for over 15 years and retired in 2000. She was a member of the Hillsboro Eagles Aerie 1161 Auxiliary, and she loved playing cards, bingo, baking cookies, and spending time with her family and friends. 

Willie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sarah Shaffer of Hillsboro; two grandchildren, Brittany Shaffer of Hillsboro and Chris (Amber) Shaffer of Hillsboro; three great-grandchildren, Aryssia Knisley, Maddisyn Knisley and Memphis Knisley. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Shaffer; two sons, Jeffery “Jeff” Scott Shaffer on Oct. 5, 2018 and Doug Shaffer on March 18, 2013, and the father of the three great-grandchildren, DJ Knisley. 

A celebration of Willie’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Was Willey's neighbor for 17 years in New Market. Her husband "J" worked for me at the County Shopper for 6 years and her sons Doug and Jeff were the same age as my Boys Mitch and Mark, Condolences to the family

I’m sorry to hear about Willie’s passing. I worked with her many years ago at Candle-Lite. She was such a fun and terrific lady.

I just loved Willie. Such a spunky lady, always had a kind word and made me laugh every time I would see her. She was the best. Lots of love and hugs to her family & everyone she's touched
