Wayne D. “Doug” Chaney, 81 of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Highland District Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1943 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Lloyd and Roberta (Lucas) Chaney.
Doug served in the Army National Guard and operated an excavating business in the Hillsboro area for many years. He was a GMRS operator, loved cars and going to car shows, go-cart racing, late-model dirt track racing, and shooting guns and air rifles. He was a loving son, brother and uncle, and was always ready to help anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his siblings, Meredith (Janet) Chaney and Sarah Bales, both of Hillsboro; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Chaney of Wilmington; several nieces and nephews, including Keith (Jennifer) Chaney, Tiffany Chaney, Shane Chaney, Robyn (Mark) Gleadle, Cheryl (Mike) Bucholtz and Cathy (Scott) Korponski; special great-nieces, Taylor (Justin) Stewart, Ashley (Jacob) Halliday and Emily (Eric) Collier; special great-nephew, Colt (Carrie) Campbell; additional great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as Melinda’s children and grandchildren, Beth Ann (Dan Pancake) Partridge and Valerie (Brook) Wise; Charles Wise and Claire Chaney Wise.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his life partner, Melinda Partridge; her daughter, Jennifer Partridge; and two brothers, Joseph Chaney and Ray D. Chaney.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday March 14 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro, when a funeral service will begin. Dr. Rindy Matthews will officiate. Burial will follow in the Auburn Cemetery. To leave an online condolence to the family, please visit www.turnerfuneralhomes.cc.
