Walter G. Burton, 89, of Hillsboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
He was born Feb. 7, 1936, in Mowrystown, the son of the late Raymond and Margene (Conover) Burton.
Walter was a proud graduate of Mowrystown High School in 1954. Following his studies, he began his career delivering Pepsi Cola, a job he enjoyed for several years. He then dedicated 27 years as a machinist at Cincinnati Milacron, where his meticulous nature and soft-spoken demeanor earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. He was an active member of the Eastern Star, where he served as Grand Chaplain and was the Past Worthy Patron multiple times for the Hillsboro Chapter 441 O.E.S. Additionally, Walter was a proud member of the Sardinia Lodge 254 F.&A.M., Highland Commandery 31 Knights Templar, Hillsboro Chapter 40 R.A.M., and Hillsboro Council 16 R.&S.M.
Walter is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Lenore (King) Burton. They were married on April 27, 1957. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Marlena Goodpastor, Erlene Burton and Brenda Creek; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and unwavering support that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by fours brothers, Raymond Jr., Paul, Lawrence and Elbert Burton.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
Eastern Star Services will be held at 1 p.m. followed by services on Monday, March 3 at the funeral home. Dr. Rev. Derek Russell will officiate, with burial following in the Buford Cemetery.
