Waldo Franklin Ferguson

Waldo Franklin Ferguson, 80, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 in his home.
 
He was born Feb. 20, 1944 in Mariemont, the son of the late Chester William and Isla (Shaw) Ferguson. The family resided in Sugartree Ridge.

A graduate of Whiteoak High School and the University of Cincinnati, Waldo worked in finance and accounting for multiple organizations, including Blue Cross of Southwest Ohio, Broward County School Board and Ohio Valley Manor.
 
He was an Air Force veteran, having served during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War. Waldo was stationed in Saigon, Ethiopia and the Pentagon, among other bases in the U.S., and received the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1968.

He was a member of several Methodist churches in Ohio and Florida. Most recently, he had attended First Presbyterian Church of Frostproof, Fla. Waldo performed his first solo in church at age 5 and continued using this gift to faithfully serve the Lord the rest of his life. He gave himself to Jesus at Sugartree Ridge United Methodist Church at a young age and was a member of gospel singing groups, including the Ferguson Family Quartet and Inner Spirit. He routinely sang in church choirs, often singing solos. He especially enjoyed singing in a country gospel band at Chapel in the Woods in recent years.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Ferguson of Hillsboro; daughter, Christina (Scott) Doelling of Columbus; sons, Steve (Julie) Ferguson of Cincinnati andTodd Ferguson of Newport, Ky.; grandchildren, Molly Ferguson, Ryan Ferguson, Lainey Doelling, Cameron Doelling, Teddy Ferguson, Benji Ferguson and Sidney Ferguson; brother, Wayne (Ruth Ann) Ferguson, sister, Sentrilla Montgomery; former daughter-in-law, Susan Ferguson; stepsons, Scott Nicol and Craig (Jeff Fraley) Nicol; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Nicol; step-great-grandson, Silas Rae Cloud; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Waldo was preceded in death by his first wife of almost 50 years, Judy (Yochum) Ferguson, who passed away in December 2014. The couple were married in 1965.
 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Beginnings Church in Sugartree Ridge, 2326 OH-136, Hillsboro 45133. Glenn Hess will be officiating services at 1 p.m. with interment immediately following in the Sugartree Ridge Cemetery, where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord full military honors.
 
Friends and family will be received at Mowrystown Presbyterian Church following the services.

Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, Hillsboro has been entrusted with the arrangements.
