Virginia Mae 'Jenny' Cockerill
Virginia Mae “Jenny” Cockerill, 91, of Washington C.H., formerly of Frankfort, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024 at Court House Manor of Washington C.H.
She was born Oct. 30, 1932 in Urbana, the daughter of William Bryan Jennings and Ollie Gay (Smith) Wisecup.
She was a 1950 graduate of Buckskin High School, a homemaker and an avid gardener and quilt maker. She was a member of the Austin Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, Paul (Janie) Cockerill of Greenfield, Bryan Cockerill of Hillsboro and Richard (Amy) Cockerill of Greenfield; one daughter, Connie Winegar of Bloomingburg; nine grandchildren, Tate (Cory) Cockerill, Chase (Sarah) Winegar, Seth (Megan) Winegar, Elizabeth (Chauncey) Creachbaum, David (Kelly) Cockerill, Ethan Cockerill (Taylor Polley), Samantha (Doug) Sheldt, Caitlin (Gunnar) Reyer and Caleb (Megan) Cockerill; 12 great-grandchildren, Otis, Lyla, Kaylin, Kinley, Eliana, Beckett, Millie, Silas, Isla, Elia, Leon and Luna; one brother, Charles Wisecup of New Mexico; one sister-in-law, Elma Jane Wisecup of South Salem; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bea (Bob) Starr of Washington C.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Eugene Cockerill, on March 7, 2011; one grandson, Nathan Cockerill; one son-in-law, Steven Winegar; one daughter-in-law, Annette Cockerill; four brothers and five sisters, Robert Wisecup, Dorothy Scheeler, Ruth Riehle, Margaret Haines, Bill Wisecup, Mary Barney Dolder, Frank Wisecup, Barbara Miller and Charlie Wisecup; and both parents.
Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Otis Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery of Frankfort.
Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
