Verna Meeks Stultz, 86, of Springfield, Ohio, formerly of Latham, Ohio, passed away after a short illness at the OSU Ross Heart Hospital in Columbus on September 19, 2009 at 5:15 p.m.
Verna was born April 25, 1923 in Offutt, Ky., one of eleven children born to the late James and Vergie (Spears) Meeks.
On February 10, 1944, Verna was united in marriage to Burton E. Stultz, Jr., who preceded her in death on September 28, 1972.
Burton and Verna owned and operated Burton’s Garage in the Byington, Ohio area for several years. Verna also retired after 10 years as a cook for the Western School District at Parker Elementary.
Surviving are one son, Danny (Duke) Stultz of Russell Point, Ohio; one daughter, Betty Crislip Hughes and husband Harold (Pete) Hughes, Jr. of Freeport, Bahamas; three granddaughters, Cheri Hughes of Freeport, Bahamas, Courtnee Hughes of Jupiter, Fla., and Jody Kopp Hill of Russell Point, Ohio; one grandson, Bud Kopp of Alger, Ohio, five great grandchildren, Samantha Hughes Baldanza, Alax Kopp, Megan Kopp, Brad Kopp, and Kelsey Kopp; two sisters, her twin Erma Gallagher of Springfield, Ohio, and Betty (Bet) Zelnik of Columbus.
Verna was preceded in death by four brothers, James and Otto Meeks and two infants; and four sisters, Francis Sheets, Anabelle Meeks, Dean Brook and Willa Mae Condo.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring with Ray Hannah officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Burial will be held in the Washburn Cemetery.
