Sylvia Marie Ames, 81 of Springfield, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2025 at Springfield Regional Medical Center.  

She was born Jan. 6, 1944 in Springfield, the daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen (Jones) Williams.  

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Springfield.  

Mrs. Ames is survived by four children, Berry (Lisa) Ames of Lima, Tina Captain of Leesburg, Bruce Ames and Romona Ames both of Springfield; 12 grandchildren, Jon Captain, James (Amy) Captain, Lydia Captain, Antonio Ames, Jason Smith, Jr., Michael Watts, Patricia Ames, Berry Ames, Marcus Watts, Rashauna Watts, Allen Ames and Shawn Goslin; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren with another on the way; a brother, Daniel Williams; special sister and cousin, Teresa Williams; sisters-in-law, Shelvy Williams, Myra Calvin, Mary Hudson and Phyllis Williams; as well as many nieces and nephews.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Ames; her daughter, Doris Marie Jamhour; a grandson, Chauncey Knight; and siblings, Robert Williams, Charles Williams, Donald Burns, Dorthy Howard, Mary Channels, Barbara Walker, Shirley Robinson and Sarah Williams.  

Visitation will be 11-noon Friday, Feb. 28 at the New Hope Baptist Church in Hillsboro, when a funeral service will begin. The Rev. Carl Hutchins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
