Stanley Robert Holden
Stanley Robert Holden, 91, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born March 5, 1932 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Clarence and Dolly May (Shaffer) Holden.
Stanley proudly served his country for 39 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. After his duties overseas, he continued to work for the United State Air Force as an aircraft mechanic until his retirement. Stanley also worked at Airborne Express, the Lynchburg-Clay School District as a bus driver for 18 years, and he was a faithful member of the Allensburg Church of Christ.
He enjoyed woodworking, leather crafting and picking blackberries, but most of all he loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 69 years, Janet (Hawk) Holden, whom he married June 30, 1954 in Lynchburg; two daughters, Bev (Tim) Ramsey of Florida and Karen Holden of Lynchburg; six grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Terrie Holden; a very special niece, Kim Morgan Winfrey; a brother, Roger (Nancy) Holden of Blanchester; and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Bob” Holden; two great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Delbert Holden, Lawrence Holden, Russell Holden and David Holden.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024 from 2-4 p.m. at the Allensburg Church of Christ. Funeral services will take place following visitation Sunday, Feb. 25 at 4 p.m. at the church. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Veterans Honor Guard, will follow services in the Barnes Cemetery. The Davis-Turner Funeral Home is serving the family.
