Stanley Alfred Fender, 85, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 31, 1937 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Carey Newton and Bertha Robinson Fender.
Stanley was the owner and operator of Fender’s Market in Mowrystown for many years. He was a 1955 graduate of Whiteoak High School; served as the clerk for New Market Township for around 20 years; had also been a truck driver for Bloom Trucking, 7-Up distributors and Standard Oil Company; and had also worked for Hillsboro Parts as a delivery person. He, along with Paul Miller, was instrumental in the formation of the Highland County Antique Machinery Club.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Walker Fender whom he had married Sept. 11, 1960 in New Market; three children, Debbie (Dave) Inman of Hillsboro, Steven Fender of New Vienna and Sandy (Tom) Howard of Covington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren, Sean (Brittnee) Inman, Tyler (Lindsay) Inman, Hannah Inman, Ryan (Brittany) Inman, Christian (Gabrielle) Inman, Cody, Cassidy, Caleb, Cole and Callie Howard and Jonathan Fender; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley G. Fender.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 22 at 11 a.m. at the Union Church of Christ. Glenn Hess will officiate. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the Union Church of Christ.
