Shirley Norene McKenzie
Shirley Norene McKenzie, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2024 at the Ohio Valley Hospice of Hope Inpatient Center in Seaman.
She was born Oct. 31, 1936, in Lynx, the daughter of the late Chester and Georgia (Urania) Whaley.
Shirley was a 1956 graduate of Cherry Fork High School, and she was a member of the Dodsonville Methodist Church. She was a farmer all her life, and for many years she farmed alongside her late husband, Darrel. She was an extremely hard worker, and she instilled that into her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed farming, gardening, tending to her family and taking care of all the animals on the farm. She will be greatly missed.
Shirley is survived by her son, Jamie McKenzie, and two daughters-in-law, Julie McKenzie and Connie McKenzie; six grandchildren, Rhonda (Dane) Wells, Melissa (Jeff) Colley, Jeffrey McKenzie, Kelsey (Andrew Brannan) McKenzie, Curt Coday and Cassie Schumacher; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Custis, Emily Snodgrass, Hannah Colley, Paizlee Marie Arreola, Ryland Ray McKenzie, Shayden Wells and Jackson Wells; two sisters, Shelby Breeze and Sue (Jim) Kidder; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jeff McKenzie; and two sisters, Ruth Breeze and Rosie Blyth.
Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
