Shirley Jones

Shirley Jones, 75, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 16, 1949 in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Herbert Minnie and Alberta (Morgan) Hoggatt.

Shirley was a 1967 Fayetteville High School graduate, and she worked for over 15 years at Candle-lite in Leesburg. Shirley loved being a mother to her children. She was very involved in the Knothole Baseball program in Fayetteville as her children were growing up, and she never missed any of their sporting events. She enjoyed cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, even through their ups and downs. Shirley loved her family, and she will be deeply missed.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 30 years, Joe Jones, whom she married Sept. 17, 1993; four children, Scott (Lynn) Valentine of Liberty Township, Donald Valentine of London, Thomas Valentine of Fayetteville and Cindy (Jimmy) Valentine-Good of Florence, Ky.; three grandchildren, Gabby Birkhimer, Lyndsay Valentine and Jesse Valentine; a great-granddaughter, Bella Birkhimer; several bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two siblings, Herbert “Junior” (Sherry) Minnie of Sardinia and Dorothy Zugg of Milton, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Francis Valentine, on Aug. 6, 2014; two brothers, Butch Minnie and Donnie Minnie; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Zugg.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Funeral services will take place following visitation Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 at noon at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the Edwardsville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to help with her funeral expenses, to the Davis-Turner Funeral Home, PO Box 400, Lynchburg 45142.
