Shelly Marie Kirby
Shelly Marie Kirby, 50, of Lynchburg, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 2, 2024 at her home.
She was born Feb. 22, 1974 in Wilmington, the daughter of Eugene “Gene” Fent and Anna (Moon) Fent.
Shelly was a 1993 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and she was the assistant officer manager and sometimes cook for Hope Emergency Program in Lynchburg.
Shelly was known for her caring and compassionate nature, which remained her most defining trait throughout her life. One of her favorite activities was Christmas shopping. She found immense joy in finding the perfect presents for her loved ones, encapsulating the spirit of giving that she carried within her heart all year. Her delight in these annual shopping trips brought warmth and cheer to everyone involved.
Shelly looked forward to her painting classes with her daughters, a time she cherished for nurturing the bond they shared and fostering their collective artistic abilities. She loved being her son Owen’s right-hand man when he needed tools, and she loved music, especially The Band Steele. She found joy in traveling, an activity which she often indulged in with her family, creating numerous cherished memories along the way.
One of Shelly's enduring qualities was her generosity and dedication to helping anyone in need. Her genuine desire to make a positive impact on those around her was evident in her daily actions. She was a beacon of selflessness and kindness, qualities that will continue to inspire those who had the fortune of knowing her.
Shelly is survived by her husband, Darrell Kirby, whom she married April 15, 2000; her mother, Anna Fent of Hillsboro; three children, Lea (Chad) Toplovich of Cincinnati, Samantha (Chase) Gorman of Hillsboro and and Owen (Taylor Hardin) Kirby of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Waylon Gorman and Josephine Gorman; a brother, Billy Joe Fent of Hillsboro; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Shelly was preceded in death by her father, Eugene “Gene” Fent; her brother, Eugene “Gene” Fent Jr.; and a granddaughter, Baby Anna.
Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 9, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, Dec. 10th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in the New Market Cemetery.
