Roger “Fuz” Payne Sr.

Roger “Fuz” Payne Sr., 80, of Washington Court House, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024 at the Court House Manor. 

He was born Oct. 5, 1944 in Ross County, the son of the late Adam H. Payne and Icy Marie (Locklear) Payne. 

Roger attended the First Baptist Church in Wilmington, and he worked in construction all of his life. When Roger was not working, he could be found enjoying time at the lake fishing or out hunting, but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family and friends. 

Roger is survived by his six children, Tammy Lynn (Kenneth) Plattenburg of Texas, Janet Ellen (Terri) Russell of Texas, Roger (Lynnette) Payne II of Washington Court House, Kathleen Marie Payne of Texas, Nicole Surina of Washington Court House and Connie Soto Lightner of Texas; five stepchildren, Felicia Elaine (Grover) Scott of Greenfield, William (Heather) Richardson of Texas, Willie Braxton Scott, Huner Nicole Scott and Serenity Marae Scott; fourteen grandchildren; three siblings, Helen Pat (Frank) Harris of Frankfort, Elmer Wayne Payne of California and Billy Lamar (Marty) Payne of Pataskala. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Ford Payne Duvall; second wife, Anna Francine “Fran” Payne; son, Michael Allen Payne; daughter, Sara Ann Payne; four brothers, Charles Franklin Payne, John Payne, David Payne and Jesse Payne; two sisters, Kathleen Raglan and Cherry Ann Coleman; and an infant grandson.
