Robert E. 'Bob' Storer
Robert E. “Bob” Storer, 80, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at The Laurels of Hillsboro.
He was born Feb. 19, 1944 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Sara Jean Bloom Higgins and Warren Higgins.
Bob was a 1962 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and he attended Morehead State University. He worked in banking for 39 years and was Hillsboro City Treasurer for several years.
Bob lived life to the fullest, from marrying the love of his life, Christine, on Oct. 3, 1964, to raising their two children, Vicki and Kim, and coaching softball and baseball teams. Throughout Bob’s life, he was a member of many organizations and clubs including past member and past Treasurer of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge 361, Hillsboro Jaycees, Hillsboro Civic Association, Hillsboro Habitat Association, Hillsboro Rotary Club and past treasurer of Hillsboro Recreation Commission. He was a Shaffer Park Commissioner for 17 years, and he had a true passion for coaching girls softball and the American Legion Baseball team. Bob was extremely proud of his American Legion baseball team when they earned a trip to the State Tournament in 1986 and 1988.
He enjoyed playing on Hillsboro Slow Pitch Softball for Hillsboro Merchants team, fishing, refinishing antiques and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by many.

Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years, Christine Rhoads Storer; two daughters, Vicki (Mike) Collins of Hillsboro and Kim (Jeffery) Johnson of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Shelby (Cody) Tolle of Wilmington, Sydney Bobbitt of Cincinnati, Stephanie Johnson of Hillsboro and J.D. Johnson of Hillsboro; two great-grandsons, Mason and Liam Tolle; three siblings, Steve Higgins of Hillsboro, Melody Evans of Hillsboro and Jacqueline Freshour of Greenfield; brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Judy Rhoads of Florida; special aunt, Naomi Newhouse of Kettering; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mozelle and Egar Bloom; his father- and mother-in-law, Howard and Caroline Rhoads; several cousins; and one aunt.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will take place Saturday, April 6, 2024 at noon at the funeral home. Rick Murray will be officiating. Burial will follow services in the Hamer Township Cemetery.
