Richard Vance Lucas
Richard Vance Lucas, 87, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024 at his home, the Long Branch Farm.
He was born Oct. 6, 1936 on a farm in Highland County to Paul and Hilda (Mercer) Lucas.
He lived on many different farms in his youth, finally ending up in the Lyndon area in 1951. He became a proud member of the Buckskin class of 1954.
He was married to Peggy Streitenberger, who preceded him in death on July 1, 2024. He was a lifelong farmer and member of the South Salem United Methodist Church. He served as a central committeeman for the Ross Co. Democratic Party, was a member of the NFO, worked to restore the South Salem Academy and volunteered to deliver commodities for the Greenfield Area Christian Center. He enjoyed weekly meetings of the Morton Road Liars Club. He was a sports enthusiast who supported the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals and the McClain Tigers.
He is survived by two daughters, Lu Ann (Kevin) Roe of Hillsboro and Lynette (Robert) McCray of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Molly (Waylon) McNutt, Landry (Abby) Roe, Mackenzie (Chase) Henson, Katie Pryor and Berton McCray; 10 great-grandchildren, Payton Pryor, Luca Matesic, Thomas Dean Matesic, Paisley Pryor, Larah Henson, Stella Henson, Harper Roe, Porter Roe, Mila McNutt and Marida Henson; one sister, Phyllis Garrison; one brother, Franklin (Jan) Lucas; four sisters-in-law, Janie King, Carol (Lewis) Speakman, Jo Ellen (Tim) Gossett and Nancy Wilson; two brothers-in-law, Ken D. (Sharon) Streitenberger and Otis Wagner.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Victor Lucas; one sister, Frances Wagner; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Garrison, Ed King; and both parents.
Funeral service will be Saturday, Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. Terry Washburn officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
