Mary Ruth Chaney

Mary Ruth Chaney passed away peacefully March 27, 2024.

She was born April 15, 1937. 

A treasured member of the Locust Grove Wesleyan Tabernacle, Ruth devoted her life to her family and faith. With a strong commitment to her community and church, she served in various roles such as a Sunday school teacher, secretary, treasurer and board member. She was vibrant and beloved. 

Graduating from Sinking Spring High School in 1955, Mary cherished her education and continued her love for learning throughout her life. In addition to her dedication to her church, Mary also served as a trustee for Bruch Creek Township for two years, leaving a lasting impact on those around her.

She is survived by her loving children, David (Mary) Chaney of Hillsboro, Dennis Chaney of Hillsboro, Doug Chaney of Hillsboro, Pamela Chaney of Hillsboro and Peggy (Dan) Curl of Hillsboro; her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan (Tabitha) Chaney, Nathan (Jamie) Chaney and Emily Chaney; one great-grandchild, Natalie; four great-great-grandchildren, Mericle, Piper, Braxton and Gus; brothers, Glenn Knauff of Jamestown and James VanPelt of Peebles; sister, Kay Bartley of New Vienna; son-in-law, Leroy Cox of Greenfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Knauff and Agnes Hayslip; husband, Dwight Chaney, on June 26, 2000; daughter, Patty Cox; brothers, Maxie, Wylie and Charles Knauff; sisters, Inez McCleese and Irene Puckett; and stepfather, Oscar Van Pelt.

Ruth’s remarkable life will be celebrated at her funeral service, where friends and family will commemorate her enduring legacy. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the Locust Grove Wesleyan Tabernacle Church, state Route 41 near OH-73, Peebles 45660. Burial will follow at the Olive Branch Cemetery in Sinking Spring.

Friends may call Friday, March 29, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the church.
