Mary Lou Acton, 87, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
 
She was born Dec. 4, 1936 in Greenfield, the daughter of Lawrence Wilson “Doc” and Lola Belle (Hensel) Heaton.
 
Mary Lou graduated at the top of her class in 1955 from Edward Lee McClain High School. She enjoyed books, reading, feeding and watching birds, spending time with family, watching OSU and Cincinnati Bengals on TV and growing flowers, and she was the undisputed croqueting champion in her family.
 
She retired from Greenfield Exempted Village Schools after 32 years of employment as the elementary school librarian.
 
She is survived by two daughters, Lea Anne (Bruce) Gabriel of Greenfield and Barb (David) Mullikin of South Salem; one son, Danny (Tracey) Acton of Greenfield; eight grandchildren, Jeff Acton (Sonia Chenault), Christian (Robbie) Thomas, Tabby (Jeremy) Huff, Heather Mullikin (Jayson Kyle), Chase (Jeweli) Mullikin, Ryan Williams, Evann (Matthew) Lewis and Shelby (Nick) Jones; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Acton, on Dec. 16, 2001; one son, Robert J. Acton; two sisters, Pauline Bryant and Gale Wiseman; and both parents.
 
Funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Jeff Barnhart officiating. Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
