Mary Jo Collins

Mary Jo Collins, 86, of Hillsboro (the Danville community), passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born Jan. 6, 1937 in Hillsboro, the daughter of Burl and Mary Wilkin Cole.

Mary Jo was a storekeeper and was the co-owner of the D & M Grocery in Danville. She is a member of the Danville Church of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Angela Collins Close of Danville; one brother, Terry (Connie) Cole of Danville; four sisters-in-law, Linda Shaffer Collins of Chillicothe, Felicity Elvie Cole of California, Fran Collins of Hillsboro and Sally Henning of New Mexico; 10 nieces and nephews, Bret (Marcia Michael) Malone of Danville, Melissa (Phil) Baker of Winchester, Richard Cole of Marysville, Tommie Sue (Dennis) Mitchell of Leesburg, Tara Nagel of Alabama, Burl Cole of Marysville, Brice (Crystal) Collins of Elyria, Amanda (Shanna Haybron) Collins of Chillicothe, Yoji (Phire) Cole of California and Kiri (Sebastian) Popa of Buford, S.C.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Collins (Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret.), on Feb. 18, 2013; one sister, Diann Malone; four brothers, Paul Cole, Eugene Cole, Burl Wilkin Cole and Terry Collins; and one son-in-law, Richard Close.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 26 at 11 a.m. at the Danville Church of Christ. Darrin Sanderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hamer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Danville Church of Christ.
