Mary J. Dawson

Mary J. Dawson passed away peacefully April 1, 2024 in Hillsboro.

She was born July 11, 1955 in Dayton to a bright and hopeful world. 

Throughout her life, Mary found joy in the simple pleasures, cherishing her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, crafting, sewing and attending church. Her love for animals shone brightly in the compassionate way she cared for them.

Her departure left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of all who knew her. Her warmth and kindness touched all those around her, leaving a lasting impact that will be remembered with fondness. Mary's legacy of love and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.


Mary was a loving and devoted wife to Bill Dawson, who stood by her side through thick and thin, for 50 years. Besides her husband, Mary is survived by her sons, David Dawson of Hillsboro and Greg (Sheila) Dawson of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Daniel, Robert, Cyrus, Tiffany and Gabriel; brother, Steven Forbes of Dayton; mother-in-law, Carol Dawson of Bellbrook; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Denver (Sandy) Dawson of Indiana, Donald Dawson of Centerville, Bryan Dawson of Louisville, Ky. and Rodney Player of Centerville. 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ledford and Mildred (Brockman) Forbes.

Funeral services to honor Mary will be at the convenience of the family. Thompson Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.
