Leland Dale 'Gus' Wilkin
Leland Dale “Gus” Wilkin, 87, of Lynchburg and Lady Lake, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.
He was born May 6, 1937 in Highland County, the son of the late Harold Lewis and Vera Marie (Roush) Wilkin.
Mr. Wilkin retired from Rotary Forms in Hillsboro in 1978 after many years of service and was a lifelong farmer in the Lynchburg area. He was an avid Civil War enthusiast. He loved going to gun shows and Civil War reenactments, both as a spectator and participant. Gus was a loving and generous father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his five children, Nial E. Wilkin of Grove City, Jeralynn Wilkin of Lady Lake, Fla., Michael D. Wilkin (Melodie) of Lynchburg, Mark Wilkin (Carrie) of Lynchburg and Karl Scott Wilkin (Goldie Merland) of Lynchburg; 48 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Darwin “Ick” Wilkin and Harold Dwain “Coolie” Wilkin; a nephew, Greg Wilkin; and several aunts and uncles.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services held. The Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg is serving the family.
