Lawrence F. 'Larry' Sowders
Lawrence F. “Larry” Sowders, 91, of Highland County, passed away Monday, Nov. 20, 2023 at his home with his family by his bedside.
He was born Nov. 15, 1932 in Cincinnati, the son of the late Luther M. and Loretta Flanigan Sowders.
Mr. Sowders was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and had retired from the Ford Motor Company. Larry enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
Surviving are eight children, Lawrence M. Sowders, Daniel (Dorothy) Sowders, Evelyn West, Alice (Derek) Watson, Janet (Bruce) Morris, Suzanne "Sam" Henson, Gloria (Glenn) Geck and Mark Sowders; 38 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; honorary daughter, Susie Deatley; brothers and sisters-in-law, Betty and Jim Burk, Bobby and Kathy Benson, Carol Benson, Denny Feldman, Bonnie Benson and Karen Benson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Rose Benson Sowders, who passed away March 10, 2023; his son-in-law, Mark Henson; two brothers, Jack and Charlie Sowders; and two sisters, Mary Lou Hartwig and Ruth Ann Hall.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 at noon at St. Benignus Catholic Church, 204 S. 2nd St., Greenfield with Fr. Michael Paraniuk officiating. Interment will follow in the Hightop Cemetery, Samantha. Please join the family for a celebration of life at the Creekview Barn beginning at 2 p.m.
