Kay Colleen Kenily McMullen
Kay Colleen Kenily McMullen passed away April 24, 2023 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born March 23, 1929 in Zanesville, the daughter of the late Edward Kenily and Laura Cody Kenily Greenler.
Kay was graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville and The Ohio State University. At OSU, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Chi Delta Phi, the national literary honorary. After college graduation, she married Robert B. McMullen Jr. on Sept. 1, 1951.
During her years of employment, Mrs. McMullen worked for the State Treasury Department, The Ohio State University, the Westerville Public Library and the graduate school library at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, Calif.
In addition to raising their three children, Mrs. McMullen was active in the community. She was a Brownie Scout leader, a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. In the First Presbyterian Church, she taught Sunday school for 20 years and served as a deacon and as an elder. For 17 years, she served on the Highland County District Library Board (secretary) and served on the Southwestern Ohio Regional Library Board (president). She was a member of the Esoteric Club and a member of the Jr. Women’s Club.
Mrs. McMullen is survived by three children, Colleen (Ronald) Heath, Molly (James) McCurdy and Robert B. (Phyllis) McMullen III; six grandchildren, Scott McCurdy, Robert B. McMullen, IV, Meghan (Zachary) Brown, Laura (Kevin) Schmidt, Rachel (Jordan) Faulkner and Jonathan Heath; two great-grandchildren, Ivy Brown and Lily Brown; and a half-sister, Kathy Kenily Hubbard.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of 63 years, Judge Robert B. McMullen Jr.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Graveside services will take place Saturday April 29, 2023 at noon in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
