Karen Sue Ward, 62, of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 2, 2025 after a short illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1963 in Virginia, the daughter of the late Ervin D. Ward Sr. and Catherine Mabel (Stinson) Thompson.
Karen loved working with her team at Walmart. She was a very hard worker; her team is missing her dearly. Karen enjoyed gardening and cooking. She also liked to bake, especially her mother’s recipes from her famous potato candy to her no-bake cookies. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Karen absolutely adored her grandchildren. She loved to be outside soaking up the sun and playing with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing at the lake. Karen’s life was filled with the one true thing that really matters…Love! She loved her family and friends. She was truly a kind genuine human being.
Karen is survived by her children, Amber (Josh) Jarvis of Hillsboro and Jeff Ward of Dayton; grandchildren, Kayden Jarvis, Kinsley Jarvis, Lillian Jarvis and Zavier Ward; and siblings, Randy (Stacy) Ward, Betty Wilkins and Sylvia (Mark) Johnson and their families. Other friends/family members include Donna and Randy Benfield, Amy Fogle Gilbert, Jimmy Shade, Mark Dickerson, Aunt Carol Stepp and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ervin “Butch” Ward; and her stepfather, Edward “Tom” Thompson.
In keeping with her wishes, Karen will be cremated with no formal services at this time. Family will have a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be made to Turner & Son Funeral Home to help the family with expenses.
