Joseph W. Davis, 98, of New Vienna, passed away six days from his 99th birthday, on Aug. 22, 2024.

He was born Aug. 28, 1925, in Highland County, the son of the late Roy C. and Fronia (Johnson) Davis. 

Joe was a 1943 graduate of Fairfield High School. He spent is life centered around agriculture, where he was a member of the FFA while in high school and a member of the Young Farmers. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the County Line Farm Bureau Advisory Council. Joe and his son Ken received the Cooperator of the year award from the Soil and Water Conservation. He enjoyed camping trips with family and friends, and enjoyed woodworking. 

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Christa Davis of Leesburg; grandson, Evan (Leah) Davis; granddaughter, Ellen (Matt) Binegar; the joy of his life, six great-grandchildren, Brady Binegar, Brenna Binegar, Eva Davis, Colston Davis, Mabel Davis and Rudy Davis; nieces, nephew, cousins and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Fannie (Gambrell) Davis, on June 14, 2019; and one brother, Ralph Davis.

Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson Funeral Home with Rich Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the New Vienna IOOF Cemetery.
