John Edward Brown, 76, of Hillsboro, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 at Hospice of Dayton.
He was born Oct. 4, 1947 in Middletown, the son of the late Donald William Brown and Mary Idora (Hartman) Brown.
John was a 1966 graduate of McClain High School. He was a lifelong farmer, served as a Highland County deputy sheriff for 20 years, worked as a registered nurse for 16 years and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
Surviving are wife, Janean Lee Brown of Hillsboro, whom he married July 14, 1967; sons, Kenneth (Kathy) Brown of New Holland and Keith (Carol) Brown of Rainsboro; and a daughter, Jennifer (Andrew) Benson of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren, Jacob Brown, Jayden Brown, Joshua Brown, Joseph Brown, Cayli (Tyler) Rowe, Nicole Benson, Drew Benson and Luke Benson; three great-grandchildren, Ty, Cayne and Jocee Rowe; three sisters, Donna Jean Mull, Marilyn Richardson and Mary Sue Conkel; a brother, James Brown; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John (Cathy) Gillespie; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, John Matthew Brown; sister-in-law, Janet Brown; three brothers-in-law, Eddie Richardson, Dave Conkel and Ray Mull; and his father-in-law, Harold Gillespie.
Services at the convenience of the family will be Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Roads Cemetery.
