Janet Opp Borden-Dixon, 78, of Savannah, Georgia, died Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the Savannah Specialty Care Center in Savannah, Georgia.
Mrs. Dixon was born January 8, 1931 in Chillicothe, Ohio, the daughter of the late Leroy and Marie Shanton Opp.
She worked for the Wilmington News-Journal from 1955 to 1973, the Hillsboro Press Gazette from 1973 to 1982, and was the Highland County Deputy Registrar from 1985 to 1989, when she moved to Georgia to be with her daughter and grandchildren. She was a member of the Mowrystown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Cassandra (Rodney) Rinehart of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Kim Powers, of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Brandie (Garrett) Welles of Savannah, Georgia, Brent (Leona) Rinehart of Hortense, Georgia, Jacob, Jessie and Dayne Powers of Phoenix, Arizona; three great-grandchildren, Devin Luther and Sophia Welles of Savannah, Georgia and Tyler Rinehart of Hortense, Georgia; three step-great-grandchildren, Bennie, Shawn and Shyann Spell of Hortense, Georgia; two sisters, Ellen Opp of Wilmington and Zelma Cutright of Chillicothe; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Borden and Joseph Dixon; two brothers, Robert Opp and Howard Opp; and two sisters, Corlene Reinhardt and Marjorie Wright.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, October 16 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Kraig Walker will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mowrystown Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Center of the donor’s choice.
