James W. Ferrell

James W. Ferrell, 83, of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

Jim was born Jan. 19, 1941 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Willis Earl and Emma Louise (Miller) Ferrell.

He was a member of the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, past president of the Hillsboro Jaycees, past president of Hillsboro Lions Clubs, founding member of the Hillsboro Festival of the Bells, Troop Master of the Cub Scouts, Troop Master of the Boy Scouts and Committee Member of the Boy Scouts at Hillsboro Global Methodist Church.

He was a 1959 graduate of Hillsboro High School. Jim retired in 1993 from the Hillsboro Fire Department as a captain after 25 years of service. Jim served as the Emergency Management Director of Highland County for several years. After retiring from the fire department, Jim and Sue worked together at the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, serving in many capacities until their retirements.

Jim is survived by three loving sons, Stephen (Tammy) Ferrell of Leesburg, James W. (Karen) Ferrell of Beaufort, S.C. and Brian Ferrell of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren, Summer (Roy) Howard, Samantha Grooms, Zachary (Meghan) Ferrell, Cody (Ali) Ferrell, Chelsie (Ryan) Hurst, Shannon (Christopher) Hall, Dominay Ferrell, Emily Ferrell, Luke Ferrell, Andrew Ferrell and Kelan Ferrell; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes (David) Barker of Chillicothe and Lois (Eddie) Montgomery of Greenfield; one brother, Mike Ferrell of Hillsboro; brother-in-law, Noel McComas of Hillsboro; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Sue (Johnson) Ferrell, on Aug. 14, 2010; one son, Mark Ferrell; grandchild, Devine Ferrell; and one sister, Kay McComas.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, 133 E. Walnut St., Hillsboro 45133.

Dr. Rev. Derek Russell will officiate, with burial to follow in the Prospect Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. at the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
