James G. Shepherd Sr.

James G. Shepherd Sr., 88, of Martinsville, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro.  
 
He was born Sept. 21, 1936 in Hillsboro, the son of the late David Crockett and Dolly Opal (Tolle) Shepherd. 

On Sept. 10, 1956, he was united into marriage to Betty J. (Dalton) Shepherd.

James was the proud owner and operator of Shepherd's Logging Company and Jim's Antiques for many years. He achieved the honor of winning a logging convention award during his career. A dedicated husband and father, James cherished spending time with his family.
 
Surviving are his loving wife, Betty J. Shepherd; two daughters, Jackie D. Stone and Janet K. Smith; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Chester Shepherd; and a sister, Virginia McKinney.
 
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, James G. "Jimmy" and Jane Shepherd Jr.; son, Jeffrey Shepherd; granddaughter, Janice May Shepherd; brother and sister-in-law, David and Carolyn Shepherd; brother, Larry Shepherd; and three sisters, Faye (Lawrence) Ashley, Bonnie Swisshelm and Judy Brien.
 
Services will be held at Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street Wilmington, Monday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Troy Roush officiating. Interment will follow in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
 
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 26 from 2-4 p.m.
