James Edward Free

James Edward Free passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at home.

He was born Aug. 27, 1933 in South Salem to Paul Theodore and Mildred Ellen (Kline) Free.

Jim was a proud graduate of Buckskin Valley High School, a member of the Buckskin Community Church, a lifelong Democrat, lifelong farmer and the owner of FreeLance Farms.
 
On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Patsy Ruth Sollars, who survives. Jim and Pat made their home in South Salem, where they raised their three children: Paul Douglas (Susan) Free, Kathryn Ellen (Doug) Farber and Bruce Alan (Suzanne) Free. Jim was the proud grandfather of Kimberly Rose Free, Amanda Beth (Carlos) Macias, Megan Ann Seaborne, Joshua Wesley (Ginny) Farber, Samuel Crosby Farber, James Carson (Kendal) Free, Thomas Alan Free and Johnathan Robert Free. Great-grandchildren include Eddie and Max Seaborne, Elena and Lucas Macias and Ellie, Jack, Jake and Ben Farber. Jim is also survived by his sister, Irene (Free) Lucas; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Free, Peggy (Sollars) Bach, Shirley (Sollars) Shoemaker and Susan (Sollars) Templin; and many nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as brothers Robert Free and Karl Free.
 
Special gratitude and appreciation goes to the Wednesday Coffee Guys, who steadfastly arrived weekly for coffee and conversation with Jim; to the caregivers who enabled him to be at home with his beloved Pat; and to the Adena Hospice team for their compassionate care in these last days.
 
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. at the Buckskin Community Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. A reception with food and fellowship will immediately follow at FreeLance Farms, 2574 Salem Road, Greenfield 45123.
 
Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckskin Community Church, 2862 Church Street, South Salem 45681.
 
The Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield is serving the family.
