James E. "Jim" Tucker Sr.
James E. "Jim" Tucker Sr., 83, of Chiefland, Fla., passed away March 7, 2025.
He was born July 5, 1941 in Orlando, Fla., the son of the late DeGene and Betty Mae (Jeffords) Tucker.
After graduating high school, he served proudly in the U.S. Navy from July 30, 1959 until May 22, 1967, achieving the rank of DC1. His military service laid the foundation for his unwavering commitment to his fellow veterans as a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 123 and the Hillsboro AmVets Post 61.
Jim enjoyed a fulfilling career as a field operations supervisor with the State of Florida's Department of Transportation. He found great joy in simple pleasures, whether it was gathering with family or attending services at Hillsboro First Baptist Church.
On June 16, 1961, Jim was united in marriage to Beverly S. (Gleadle) Tucker, who preceded him in death on Feb. 17, 2007. They were blessed with two sons, James (Lindsey) Tucker and Steve Tucker; and his beloved granddaughter, Felicia Tucker. He also leaves behind cherished friends, including his sister-in-law, Shirley Williams; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph (Linda) Gleadle; nieces and nephews, Deborah (Larry) Lucas, Tracy (Jeff) Wilt, Mark (Robyn) Gleadle and Brent (Melissa) Gleadle; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
Gathering of family and friends will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at the Hillsboro First Baptist Church. Military rites will be provided by the Highland County Honor Guard at 6:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life Service at the church. Pastor Cy Broughton will lead the service.
