Hugh Young Jr.

Hugh Young Jr., 91, of New Vienna, passed away on March 25, 2025.

Hugh was born Sept. 26, 1933, in McDermott, the son of Hugh Young Sr. and Anna Myrtle (Harsh) Young.

He was a 1953 graduate of New Vienna High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Greenfield Printing in 1980 after 25 years of employment as a Master Printer and was also a devoted farmer. Hugh was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenfield and coached 5th and 6th grade basketball and baseball for 20 years. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger – always ready with a joke and a peppermint for anyone he came across. His quick wit, warm heart and sense of humor made everyone feel welcome.

He is survived by his wife, Priscilla (Blackburn) Young, whom he married on May 2, 1953; one daughter, Susan Elaine (Ray) Walden of New Vienna; one son, Steven Mark (Tausha) Young of New Vienna; and seven grandchildren: Zachary (Kim) Ellenburg, Travis (Kim) Ellenburg, Seth (Teresa) Young, Katie (Chris) Streber, Ethan Young, Kelsi (Jacob) Jones, and Owen Young.

He was also a proud great-grandfather to Tyler, Colton, Kaden, Emma, Payton, Landon, Grayson, Stella, Parker, Gunner, Emsley, and Sawyer.

He is also survived by one sister, Shirley Cluxton of Lynchburg; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Roger (Darlene)Young of Blanchester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald Eugene, Howard, and Roger Young; four sisters, Elizabeth Young, Virginia Vester, Maxine Palmer, and Alma Hamilton; and both parents.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 29 from noon-2 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with the funeral service immediately following.
