Hollis Stevenson

Hollis Stevenson, 76, of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. 

She was born May 3, 1947 in Pueblo, Colo., to the late Sally Turnbaugh and Thomas Stevenson. 

She moved with her mother to Cincinnati at the age of 3. There, she graduated from Colerain High School and continued her education at the University of Cincinnati, where she received a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. After graduation, she ran her own graphic design firm in Cincinnati for many years.

Shortly before she met the love of her life, Roger Habig, in the late ’70s, Hollis had a child whom she placed for adoption and later reunited. Roger and Hollis married in 1980 and moved to Hillsboro in 1989. There, they raised their daughter, Stephanie, and built their life together until his passing in 2000. 

In the late ’90s, Hollis made a career change and went back to college, where she received two master’s degrees in education. Hollis touched countless lives during her 25 years of teaching in the Hillsboro City Schools district before retiring several years ago. She was a proud member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. She had a love for photography and cookbooks and was known for her incredible recipes.   

She is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie (Raymond) Hensley of McConnelsville and Jenni (Mark) Turner of Huber Heights; six grandchildren, Chaya Hensley, Madison Hensley, Liam Hensley, Nathaniel Hensley, Jacob Turner and Lucas (Kailyn) Turner; and countless friends whom she held dear and considered family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 

Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Good New Gathering, with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. officiated by Reverend Warren Huestis. There will be a meal for friends and family at Lacy Hall - St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Hillsboro after the funeral concludes.
