Helen Alice (Knapp) Haines, 77, of South Salem, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
 
She was born Dec. 19, 1947, in Ross County, the daughter of Homer Knapp Sr. and Vallie (Kerr) Knapp.  
 
She was a 1967 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and was a homemaker and family matriarch.
 
She is survived by her husband, James E. Haines, whom she married on Sept. 29, 1968; four children, Chad (Barb) Haines, Brandon (Stephanie) Haines, Wesley (Kimberly) Haines and Melody (Rod) VanGundy; 16 grandchildren, Josh, Ray, Ashley, Megan, Beth, Wes, Dustin, Baylee, Braylynn, Tyler, Trenton, Isabella, Olivia, Luke, Mia and Willow; 15 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Ada (Robert) Hastings, Mary (Sammy) James and David A. Knapp; three siblings-in-law, Diana Haines, Jeanie (Dale) Groves and Gene Kelley; numerous nieces and nephews; two special fur babies, Luna, Mingo; and special grand-dog, Simon.
 
She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lilly Haines; one grandson, Max VanGundy; one daughter-in-law, Patsy Stewart Haines; eight brothers, Homer Jr., William “Bill”, Donald, Hubert, Max, Monroe, Melvin, and Brady Knapp; one sister, Virgina Knapp; one sister-in-law, Juanita Haines Kelley; and both parents.
 
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Josh Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Twin Township Cemetery in Bourneville.
 
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
