Eleanor Louise (Doan) Snodgrass, 73, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born Aug. 24, 1950, in Panama City, Pan., the daughter of Dr. Glenn B. and Ruth Ellen (Cornuelle) Doan.
Eleanor and her husband, Larry, were blessed with a beautiful life. Larry and Eleanor began going steady when she was a junior at Edward Lee McClain High School, where they met and fell in love. Eleanor graduated with the class of 1968 and Larry the class of 1967. They got married on Oct. 20, 1968 and share four beautiful children that they adore and are most proud of. In their younger years, they spent time supporting their kids in everything they did.
While the children were young in April of 1972, Eleanor and a group of friends began The Bridge Club that gets together twice a month to this day. Eleanor along with her dear friends, Linda Penn, Susan Stuckey, Candy Black, Mary Jane Parker, Carolyn Snodgrass, Vicky Unger, Sharon Hiles, Dianna Zimmerman and many, many other ladies celebrated over 50 years of friendship, laughter and love while growing old together. Eleanor was a charter member of Altrusa of Highland County, a Madison Township fiscal officer, an active member of the Pisgah church and loved the community she lived in.
Eleanor began working at Greenfield Exempted Village Schools in 1986 and worked there for over 30 years in special education programs. After retirement, she and Larry enjoyed playing golf, pickleball, traveling, gardening, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Until the end Eleanor was present in her family's lives by attending ball games, concerts, recitals, rodeos, and award ceremonies. Eleanor was a believer and follower of Christ and will be missed by community members, friends and family. Eleanor was at peace in the end knowing they walked in faith through their lives while sharing the gospel boldly.
Eleanor is survived by her doting husband Larry Snodgrass; children, Christine (Marvin) Larrick, Barbara (Joseph) Smith, Ben (Ellen) Snodgrass; grandchildren, Hannah (Ren) Allard, Lauren Larrick, Grace (Joey) Moreland, Owen Larrick, Eleanor Smith, Henry Smith, Charles and Oliver Snodgrass and was a wonderful GiGi to, Beckett, Paxton and Brigley Allard; siblings, Cathy (Lester) VonBargen, Virginia Bryers, Janet Snyder, Bill (Sue) Doan and Sarah Dost.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dr. Glenn B. Doan and Ruth; mother and father-in-law, Charles and Caroline Snodgrass; sister-in-law and bridge member, Becky and her husband Gary Stuckey; brother-in-law, Jerry Snyder; and her son, Matthew Wade Snodgrass whom she is now home with.
Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
