Dorothy May Ellis Hodson
Dorothy Hodson
Dorothy May Ellis Hodson, 95, of Hillsboro, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2024 at Salyers Group Home in Hillsboro.
She was born July 29, 1929, in Silverton in Hamilton County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Edwin Ellis and Mary Hendrixson Ellis.
Mrs. Hodson was a graduate of Buford High School; and on May 25, 1946, married the love of her life, Robert Hodson. That would begin a 77-year marital journey. She was a perfect example of the axiom “Find a Hurt and Heal It. Find a Need and Fix It.” She was instrumental in the founding of the Highland County Historical Society and the Festival of the Bells. She was a constant fixture at all school activities that her children participated in and was PTO president and president of the Band Boosters.
She loved her home, and no one enjoyed cooking, baking and hosting friends and family more than she did. But most of all she loved the Lord. She was an active member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church, serving on many committees, Sunday School and an active participant in the Emmaus Community. Second only to the Lord, she deeply loved her family. She and her husband Bob were a great team and showered their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love. She loved spending time with friends, whether on a community project or something just for fun.
She is survived by two sons, David (Judy) Hodson of Cornelius, N.C. and Jeff (Phyllis) Hodson of Washington C.H.; seven grandchildren, Jarrett (Leigh) Hodson of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Meredith (Matt) John of Ft. Mill, S.C., Laura Lee (Stephen) Parker, of Huntersville, N.C., Nathan (Karissa) Hodson of Columbus, Courtney Hodson of Lancaster, Tori Rinehart of Athens and Lance Rinehart of Logan; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on July 29, 2023, Robert Hodson; one daughter, Susan Hodson Rinehart; one granddaughter, Ashley Brooke Hodson; and one sister, Marguerite Springer.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church, 133 E. Walnut Street, Hillsboro 45133. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27 at the church, with burial to follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Dr. Derek Russell will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro Global Methodist Church or the Highland County Historical Society.
The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.turnerfuneralhomes.cc.
A life well-lived
Dorothy and Bob are together again. I was happy to call them my friends. Dorothy was a dear, sweet presence at any community event in which she served. They just don't make too many like Dorothy and Bob. Rest in peace.
