Doris Louise Butler, 85, of McKinley Heights, Ohio, died at 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital following a extended illness.
She was born in Carter County, Kentucky on June 22, 1924 to Tony and Bertha (Collins) Stephens and came to the McKinley Heights community in 1957.
Doris was a member of Olive Hill Christian Church and attended the Austintown Westview Church of Christ. She enjoyed crafts, canning, sewing and gardening. She was a custodian at ITT Technical Institute and a nursing assistant at several nursing homes.
A beloved mother, Doris is survived by four children, Linda Butler of Hillsboro, Donald (Judy) Butler of Westminster, South Carolina, Gregory (Marilyn) Butler of Weeki Wachi, Florida, and Sandra Butler, with whom she lived; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed by her family. She is also survived by three sisters, Hazel Evans of Niles, Ohio, Mary Holbrooks of Niles, and Shirley Padilla of Murphy, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roy E. Butler, whom she married on May 28, 1941 and who died on August 19, 1976; two grandsons, Lionel Bradford and Curtis Butler; and four brothers, Charles, Arthur, William and Jimmy Stephens.
A visitation was held Sunday, October 18, 2009 from 2-5 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home of Niles, Ohio. The funeral was held Monday, October 19, 2009 at noon at the funeral home. Burial followed at Kerr Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Services Agency of Mahoning County, 5208 Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown or Easter Seals Center for Rehabilitation, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Youngstown.
