Deacon Leonard Barton Parker

Deacon Leonard Barton Parker, 75, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Hospice of Hope at Adams County Regional Medical Center.

Len was born June 29, 1948 in Cincinnati, the son of the late Barton Edward Parker and Catherine B. McWalters Parker.

Len worked and eventually retired as a Hamilton County Sheriff Deputy. After his retirement, he moved to the Bainbridge area and became a country gentleman, where he farmed 720 acres. While in Hillsboro, Len was ordained and became a Deacon in 2001 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, where he faithfully served for many years. He and his wife taught OICA together for over 20 years.

He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Police #84 Western Hamilton County, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus and 3rd Order of Franciscan. In his later years, Len was a proud member of the Ohio Cigar Mafia and Quick Response Team of Highland County. He was also an avid guitar player and was in a band in the 1960s called The Crosswinds.

Len is survived by his children, Patrick (Penny) Parker of Cincinnati, Larry (Keri) Parker of Hillsboro and Beth (David) Snider of New Vienna; grandchildren, Mikayla (Lawrence) Beavan and Kenton Snider; and great-grandchildren, Faryn Grey Beavan and Killian Charles Beavan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Hunt Parker, on June 7, 2017.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial with Fr. Mike Paraniuk as celebrant will occur immediately following visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology, Advancement Office, 6616 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45230.
