David Leslie 'Moe' Ellis Jr.

David Leslie “Moe” Ellis Jr., 77, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Adena Greenfield Medical Center.
 
He was born Dec. 28, 1946 in Greenfield to the late David L. Ellis Sr. and Virginia L. (Wilson) Ellis.
 
He graduated from Edward Lee McClain High School, class of 1964, and served in the U.S. Army. He was a loving father and grandfather, retired (and not-so-retired) farmer and carpenter and loved learning about history and figuring out how things were made. He was a poultry aficionado and won many awards over the years at fairs and other competitions with his animals. He enjoyed athletics, especially baseball and track and field, and was a Little League coach in Greenfield.
 
He is survived by his wife, Janet K. Ellis, to whom he was married June 10, 2006; a son, Richard Ellis of Columbus, and two daughters, Donna Ellis of Ashland and Wendy (Jared Worley) Ellis of Greenfield; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Beaumont and Tia (Adam) Barnham; a stepson, Rich Buskirk; four grandsons, Casey Ellis, Clayton Ellis, Caden Ellis and Lewis Worley; two nephews, Timothy (Sharon) Fryer and David (Marci) Reeves; one uncle, James Wilson; one aunt, Joann “Jannie” Moorehead; stepbrother, Norman Massey; special friend, Mike Mt. Castle; several step-nieces, step-nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; and many friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia (Wilson) Ellis Massey; father, David L. Ellis Sr.; sister, Patricia Reeves; brother-in-law, James Reeves; stepfather, Francis Massey; stepbrother, Frank Massey; stepsister, Stephanie Abshear; nephew, Charles Staats; uncles, Starling, Robert, Rodney and Dale Ellis; aunts, Ruth Gregory and Alyce Overbey; and beloved dog, Roy.
 
Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield beginning with a veteran’s appreciation service then Pastor John Worley to officiate. Burial will follow in Greenfield Cemetery with military rites provided by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield.
 
Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
