Curtis Wayne Sears

Curtis Wayne Sears, 66, of Hillsboro, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, April 19, 2024 with his family by his side, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. 

He was born June 5, 1957 in Cincinnati, the son of Charles Curtis and Willie Audrey Copley Sears. 

Many of his loved ones were not ready to say “See you later,” but he did not suffer, and cancer did not win. Wayne left this world a saved man with a loving family. It is very hard to say “goodbye” to someone who gave you your name, who you have known your whole life, who taught you everything you needed to know in life, to a hero. Some say it’s not “goodbye” but “see you later,” but it sure feels like it. 

Curtis was a hard-working diesel mechanic. He had served 10 years in the Army National Guard and was a member of the Belfast Methodist Church and AmVets Post #61. 

He was a proud husband and pop-pop and was most definitely a proud father. His daughters were proud also of him as a Blue-Collar Superman. The Man, the Myth, the Legend will never be forgotten. 

He is survived by his wife, Deborah Johnson Sears, whom he had married in 2003; four children, Christina (Jason Arnett) Sears of Belfast, Kelli (Matt) Eldreth and Nicole Daisey of Delaware and Jessica (Jeremey) Mudd of Falmouth, Ky.; 19 grandchildren that include Cody, Gracie, Sadie, Cheyenne, Dakota, Lilly, John, Trystan and Caitlin; and seven great-grandchildren, including one who some might argue was his favorite, Willy. Wayne was a hero and confidant to countless others, including his niece, Tina Woods; and his nephew and best friend, Billy Woods. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Curtis Sears; mother, Willie Audrey Copley Lewis; two sisters, Violet Branson and Gretna Woods; and a son-in-law, Jim Daisey. 

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at his home this summer on June 29, 2024, with a party starting at 3 p.m. and ending when the wheels fall off. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
