Carliss Ray Smith Sr.

Carliss Ray Smith Sr., 74, of Wilmington, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024 at Clinton Memorial Hospital.  
 
He was born Aug. 8, 1949 in Woodbine, Ky., the son of the late Howard and Beverly (Paul) Smith.
 
Carliss loved fishing, watching wrestling and working on cars with his boys.
 
Surviving are his four children, Rhonda (Mark) Bond, Carliss (Cheri) Smith Jr., Michael (Shaunda) Smith and JoAnna (Aaron) Powell; grandchildren, Kathy Smith, Samantha (Brad) Constant, Brandon Smith, Rebecca Smith, Mikey Smith, Brett Smith, Renee (Zachary) Constant, Aubrey Powell and Gabrielle Powell; three great-grandchildren, Mia Constant, Azaria Constant and Shirley Clifton, and two great-grandchildren on the way; two sisters, Charlise Mattos and Pamela Harner (Richard Faul); brother, Wayne Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
 
In addition to his parents, Carliss was preceded in death by his wife, Betty JoAnn Smith; grandson, Daniel Ray Smith; brother, Steve Smith; and a sister, Nancy Harris.
 
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Wilmington Assembly of God, 609 W. Locust St., Wilmington, with Pastor John Wirmel officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a memorial luncheon served for everyone.
 
Friends will be received Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the services at the church.

Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, Wilmington has been entrusted with the arrangements.
 
Contributions in memory of Carliss may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with expenses.
