Betty Lou Beatty

Betty Lou Beatty, 97, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at Scioto Community in Columbus, where she had been residing since 2020.

Betty was born Jan. 8, 1927 in Springfield to Dwight and Gertrude Mantz Wilcox. 

She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio and lived most of her life in Greenfield and Washington Court House before moving to the Columbus area. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had formerly worked for Dr. Doane in Greenfield and Dr. Young in Mount Sterling.

She enjoyed all aspects of the harness racing business and had been an owner of standardbred racehorses. She was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association and the United States Trotting Association. She had formerly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.

Betty is survived by a son, Hugh J. "Sandy" Beatty, and his wife, Sandra, of Orient; two grandchildren, Adam C. Beatty and his wife, Courtney, and Rachel (Landon Hall) Beatty; a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Taylor Hall; and a brother, Richard Wilcox of Rochester, N.Y.

On May 5, 1952, she married Hugh Edwin Beatty.  He preceded her in death Nov. 5, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Wilcox.

The funeral will be Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024 at noon at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
