Barry A. Pendell
Barry A. Pendell, 67, of Belfast, passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his wife and kids.
Barry was born Feb. 6, 1956 in Jamestown, to Jean (Pendell) Wallace.
He was a 1974 graduate of Whiteoak High School. After graduation, he served in the Ohio National Guard for six years. His longtime career was asphalt paving, and he retired from Roberts Paving in 2019. After retirement, he contributed to his community by working for Jackson Township, running equipment. His favorite hobbies included spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, taking his Corvette for a joy ride, mowing his yard, drinking beer and listening to music with his friends.
Anyone who knew Barry knew that he was always the life of the party. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and just enjoy the moment. Barry was a storyteller, and he enjoyed sharing all of his life stories with everyone. He especially enjoyed telling stories about his time in the National Guard, where he served alongside his best friend, Steve Hart. Barry fought his battle against esophageal cancer for a little less than a year. Despite spending much of the time not feeling well, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his wife and grown children, made everyone laugh and remained positive. He fought as hard as he could and was tough as nails through the whole journey. His lightheartedness and sense of humor will be tremendously missed.
Barry is survived by his wife and love of his life, Jill Newkirk; his three children, Barry (Tara) Pendell of Hillsboro, Megan (Darby) Hodge of Hillsboro and Stephanie (Ryan) Perie of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Shaila, Autumn, Jolee, Barry Jr., Ella and Nora; mother-in-law, Jenny Hackney; siblings, Richard (Laura) Hilderbrandt, Robin (Frank) Schoolcraft and Sherry Keith; sister-in-law, Billie (Frank) Saunders; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and special family friends.
Barry was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Jean (Pete) Wallace; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and some special friends.
Cremation will take place, and there will be no services held. To honor Barry’s memory, the family is holding a celebration of his life Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 at the Belfast United Methodist Church, 1862 state Route 73, Hillsboro 45133. The family invites anyone who knew Barry to attend and remember his wonderful life from 2-6 p.m.. Eulogy will take place during that time at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Fayette County. The family is extremely grateful for the care, time and attention provided from his Hospice team, his Crisis Care team and his special nurse Amanda.
