Barbara Jean Cole

Barbara Jean Cole, 86, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.
 
She was born Aug. 19, 1937 in Greenfield, the daughter of William Wesley and Mildred (Seldon) Harewood.
 
Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School, a longtime member of Shorter Chapel AME Church in Greenfield and a passionate and avid member of the Sweet Adelines.
 
She retired from Greenfield Research in 1997 after 20 years of employment and then went to work at K-mart in Hillsboro and Greenfield Exempted Village Schools. Prior to Greenfield Research, she worked at Bay’s Variety Store, Harewood Decorative Services, Wadells Home, Mature Services and the WIC office, among other places.
 
She is survived by six children, Thomas Richard (Pauletta) Cole of Wilmington, Karen Cole Johnson (Tony Dunson) of Washington C.H., Charles Wesley Cole (Bert Fouch) of Leesburg, Steven Lewis (Juliana) Cole of Washington C.H., Timothy Ray Cole of Chillicothe and Tracy Gene (Sunday) Cole of Canton; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Louis (Jackie) Harewood of Grand Blanc, Mich. and Philip Henry (Nancy) Harewood of Greenfield; one sister, Mary Avery of Flint, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Doris Pulse and Pam Fabin, both of Greenfield.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eugene Cole, on Oct. 23, 1995; one brother, John Wesley Harewood; one sister, Helen Johnson; one brother-in-law, Rev. James Avery; and both parents.  
 
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 7 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield with Rev. Nigal Felder officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.
 
Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the church.
 
Barbara left a legacy of love and had the biggest heart. She loved her family, Shorter Chapel, Sweet Adelines and the city of Greenfield. If you were lucky enough to know her, you were one of her children. She was ever so faithful to her Lord Jesus. Although her loved ones are sad for her loss, please celebrate her life and love for God. She went home, she is at peace, and she left her mark.
